Alyx is a filmmaker and choreographer. She spent the first ten years of her life on Waiheke Island, NZ in a small community. Growing up on an island with much time spent playing along the headlands and beaches had a considerable influence on her imagination. Much of her work is inspired by community in relationship with their environment. She studied dance in the Netherlands and at Unitec in New Zealand, developing a fascination with film through video dance. Six of her dance films have screened at the New Zealand International Film Festival. Pandora also screened at ReelDance International Dance on Screen Festival, Cine Dans in Amsterdam, and In the Realm of the Senses in Melbourne. Her work ranges from directing and choreographing short films, installation, music videos (including award-winning music video Fuji for Wellington-based band Minuit), teaching videodance and film studies, and choreographing international TV commercials. Her last stage production was the dance theatre work The Nature of Wishing. Alyx completed her Masters in Theatre Arts at Toi Whakaari and Victoria University with Distinction in 2009. During the program she made three films and one installation, her major work being short film Appetite. She is currently making her first feature length work, experimental documentary The Red House. |
