Synopsis

Solo work for Auckland Dance Festival performed as part of ‘Scratch and Sniff Dance Shorts’ at Cloud Nine, Titirangi.

Concept Outline

Raining Child explores a woman’s journey from birth to death. The movement and light centers around a cast iron bathtub, drawing the audience into the pool of water and a body slick from tepid bathwater.

Artist Statement

Given life from my mother
Through her waters I drift
Buoyed up by her conscious motions
And unconscious gifts.
Older woman, life’s juices soak
Aging in flesh, she is
Known to herself through all her bodies
Still one.
She feels through memories of her self
Of friends, sons, daughter and man
Stubborn self
Even in forgetfulness.
